THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Saint John Paul II reminds us, that, an ordained priest is essential for the    Eucharist. That is because the Eucharist is something that Jesus does, not something we do. He does it through the ministry of the priest who, by            ordination, becomes Christ for the community that he is called to serve. (Bishop Kevin, Some Definite Service, Pastoral Letter on Discipleship and Mission in Changing Times, 2019)

Prayers at Home
In these extraordinary times when we cannot gather for Mass, we would encourage you to download and print out this prayer booklet for use at home.  Perhaps consider printing off some copies to pass on to people who may not have internet access.  While you can pray this at any time, a good time to do so would be at the time Mass is normally celebrated in your local parish. https://www.elphindiocese.ie/prayers-at-home-when-gathering-for-mass-is-not-possible/

Return to Church and Sacramental Life:

We hope to return to Church on  Monday 29th June, beginning with daily Mass at 10.00am In St. Colmcille’s.  Because of the 2 metre distancing rule the capacity of our Churches is reduced to 31 places.  We will return to Sunday worship on the weekend of 5th July with Mass in St. Colmcille’s at 7pm (Vigil) and 10.30am (Sun) and in St. Patrick’s at 12noon (Sun) To implement the    restrictions we will be inviting people from designated Station Areas to come on  their assigned Sunday.  We will inform you of the Station Areas and their assigned Sundays over the coming days via our Website. We are encouraging you to come as families on your assigned   Sunday and to sit together as a family and so allowing more in the Church. We also need volunteer stewards and      sanitisers to help us to adhere to the guidelines drawn up by the Bishops for the safe return to worship.  At     present we are very short of the required numbers of volunteers for both tasks so if you are prepared to help  at the daily Mass and weekend Masses please contact Fr. Tom or your Parish Rep.  We will need  parishioners support, cooperation ,patience and understanding as we try to implement the guidelines.   If the Church has reached its capacity you maybe asked to stand outside.  For anniversaries we are asking people to book Masses on their Station Areas      assigned Sunday or at a weekday Mass.  People will not be able to get to Mass every Sunday (only on their assigned  Sunday) but you will still be able to follow Mass on our  Website and Facebook page.  For the present you can fulfil your Sunday obligation on a weekday.   It is wonderful that we can return to Church and it is an answer to prayer but we must undertake this return cautiously and not put ourselves or  others at risk.  Anybody  who is unwell is asked not to attend Church

Mary’s Meals

Present for my teacher campaign on www.marysmeals.ie is where parents and guardians can buy an online gift for their children’s teachers in exchange for a donation towards the work of Mary’s Meals Ireland. It’s really two presents in one – a beautiful e-card that kids can safely send to their teacher by email and the promise of daily school meals for children in some of the world’s poorest communities. Donations of any amount are gratefully accepted; it costs just €18.30 to feed a child for an entire school year and at least 93% of all donations are spent on charitable activities. It’s a simple idea that works. In schools where children receive Mary’s Meals, enrolment goes up, fewer children skip lessons or drop out of school, students find it easier to concentrate in class and exam results improve.
